Genesis Housing Association chooses Insite Energy to manage metering and billing management across its heat networks

Competitive process for four-year, £1.7 million contract sees Insite Energy recognised for partnership model, flexibility, technological solutions and value.

Insite Energy has been selected by Genesis Housing Association to manage metering, credit billing and prepayment for its 4,500 heat network-connected flats across London and the South East. The four-year contract worth £1.7 million follows a competitive OJEU tender and mini competition process where Insite Energy scored 93 per cent against the award criteria.

Genesis’ de-centralised energy and heat metering framework contract will see approximately 75 percent of flats transfer over to Insite Energy’s heat metering & billing service over a four-phase, nine-month handover period, with the remainder being considered for retro-fitting with an Insite Energy-operated Pay-As-You-Go metering system, within a similar timescale. The first credit billing service will go live in July at the Woodberry Down development in Hackney, London.

Anthony Coates-Smith, business development director at Insite Energy, said, “This is the first major OJEU contract win for Insite Energy so we’re delighted to come out on top, against stiff competition from market leaders, and with such a high score. Having gone through this OJEU process means that other housing associations are able to consult our responses to the very relevant priorities of one of their peers. They can then leverage the same attractive terms directly with Insite without the need to repeat the tender process should they wish.”

Insite Energy’s first place scoring was based on a number of factors including its ability to work with Genesis’ internal systems and third party suppliers; the fact that it has a team of in-house engineers on call; its wide range of payment technology options and its use of transferable operating licenses. Central to the new contract is the provision of a new client relationship manager position. Guru Systems and Secure meters will be specified as part of retrofit works.

The Genesis Housing Association business means Insite Energy now manages approximately 170 communal heating schemes and 27,500 units in the UK. Last month, a new sister company, Heatworks Solutions, was launched, allowing Insite Energy to offer heat network plant room and metering system maintenance alongside its metering, billing and payment services.
