Paris, May 2026 – Allison Transmission is exhibiting its latest powertrain solutions for wheeled and tracked defence vehicles at Eurosatory 2026 (Paris Nord Villepinte, June 15-19, Hall 5A, Stand C309). The product focus is the 4040MX cross-drive transmission and the 4000 Series transmission, renowned for its robustness and performance in the most demanding operational environments.
The 4040MX: a cross-axle transmission designed for tracked combat vehicles
The 4040MX cross-drive transmission is an evolution of the 3040MXm which has performed in defence propulsion systems for decades. Developed for medium-class tracked combat vehicles, it has increased torque ratings for increased vehicle weight and speed capabilities. This solution integrates the vehicle’s propulsion, steering and braking functions within a single system, optimising overall mobility and vehicle control in the most complex operational conditions.
The 4040MX is designed to support future developments in combat platforms and meet the growing demands of modern armed forces in terms of performance, reliability and durability. Its architecture facilitates the integration of technological advancements to the defence land vehicles in which it is installed throughout their lifecycles. The advanced design of the 4040MX also helps reduce maintenance requirements, thereby maximising vehicle uptime.
The 4000 Series: robustness and performance for defence wheeled vehicles
The 4000 Series is a range of fully automatic transmissions, which have been specially adapted for wheeled defence vehicles operating in harsh environments and under severe operational demands.
Designed to deliver high performance both on-road and off-road, the 4000 Series features Continuous Power Technology™, which ensures continuous power delivery to the drive wheels. This technology promotes smooth and fast acceleration, optimised traction and excellent vehicle control at low speeds, particularly in hard-to-reach areas or during delicate manoeuvres. The transmission’s torque converter and planetary gearset improves starting and off-road capabilities, essential critical missions. The 4000 Series and its numerous electronic options make it a flexible partner when it comes to integration with, and powering of, auxiliary equipment such as winches and specific on-board systems.
Allison fully automatic transmissions contribute to crew comfort and vehicle control. By allowing the driver to always keep both hands on the steering wheel and to focus fully on their surroundings, operator fatigue is reduced during extended missions and in challenging operational conditions.
