SLIEDRECHT, The Netherlands – Allison Transmission will present its fully automatic transmission and drivetrain solutions for fire and rescue vehicles at Interschutz 2026, the world’s leading trade show for firefighting, emergency services, and civil protection (June 1–6, 2026, Hanover, Hall 27, Booth H15).
The focus will be on advancements in proven technologies with a view to operational performance, efficiency, reliability, emission reduction, and the integration of alternative powertrains.
Allison will be presenting its 4000 SeriesTM of transmissions, among other products. These transmissions are designed for engine outputs of up to approximately 597 kW and are among the most widely used transmissions in the firefighting sector worldwide. Typical applications include rescue fire trucks, heavy rescue vehicles, and heavy-duty specialty vehicles. The transmissions offer torque multiplication during start-up and full-load shifting without interruption of traction. This enables unbeatable starting performance, acceleration, and control, even under extreme load conditions and in challenging terrain. They also allow for precise maneuvering at low operating speeds in difficult situations. The integrated hydraulic retarder assists vehicle deceleration and reduces wear on the service brakes.
As the world’s leading manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions for fire and rescue vehicles, Allison collaborates with numerous international vehicle manufacturers, including Daimler, MAN, Iveco, Scania, DAF, Volvo, and Tatra. Allison transmissions are used in a wide variety of emergency vehicles, from rescue pumpers and turntable ladders to water tenders, as well as airport fire trucks and ambulances.
A key feature of Allison technology is the so-called “Continuous Power Technology™”, which ensures uninterrupted power transmission. In combination with the torque converter, this significantly improves start-up performance and acceleration. The technology enables acceleration times up to 35 percent faster compared to other transmission technologies. A factor that directly impacts response times.
Also relevant for operational use are features such as the integrated hydraulic retarder and power take-offs (PTO). When combined with the Pump & Roll function, a fire pump, for example, can be operated even while the vehicle is in motion – an advantage in specific emergency scenarios, such as wildfires or airfield firefighting. The transmissions also offer options for the integration of multiple PTOs for various auxiliary equipment.
Allison offers the right product for every fire and rescue vehicle: Allison’s 1000 SeriesTM and 2000 SeriesTM are used in light-duty multi-purpose vehicles. Medium- and heavy-duty fire truck configurations are equipped with the 3000 and 4000 SeriesTM models, featuring either a single or dual-engine setup (up to 597 kW), depending on the application. Allison’s larger 6000 SeriesTM powers airport fire trucks with a power output of up to 727 kW.
