New maintenance service for heat network metering systems is launched to address managing agents’ needs

Heatworks Solutions will deliver expert meter specification advice, installation and maintenance – for all meter types – simply, with fast response times, to improve the resident experience.

The launch is announced today of Heatworks Solutions, a new maintenance service provider for managing agents, property managers, estate managers and residential leasehold managers that takes care of the complete metering system of a heat network. Heatworks Solutions can manage meter specification; system design, installation and commissioning; planned servicing and reactive 24 hour on-call assistance – from the plant room to each individual property, regardless of the type of meter in the property.

Although a new, dedicated enterprise, Heatworks is backed by many years’ experience of heat meters and maintenance within the built environment. It is part owned by Rydon Maintenance Ltd, a £300m housing development, maintenance and refurbishment group. Through its sister company, Insite Energy, Heatworks already manages the metering system design, installation and billing for 22,000 homes across 140 communal heating schemes in the UK. This means that, unlike other maintenance providers, Heatworks can also offer an all-in-one service by taking on maintenance contracts with responsibility for the full metering and billing system.

Lyndsey John, head of delivery at Heatworks Solutions, said: “Heatworks Solutions is here to make heat metering a simple affair for property managers and their customers, whatever meter technology is specified or already installed. We will do this by responding quickly and integrating seamlessly into our customers’ existing systems and processes. We aim to give managing agents total peace of mind and be part of the machine that keeps resident satisfaction high.

“As specialists, we’re better qualified to deliver these services to a high standard than general maintenance providers. We understand well the impact to a property’s bottom line, management fees and customer satisfaction if the heat metering system is not properly maintained.”

Heatworks Solutions’ in-property maintenance service will take care of all primary heat network assets, including heat interface units, primary pipework, heat meters, and any pay-as-you go equipment. Plantroom maintenance takes care of gas boilers, combined heat and power, biomass, pumps, building management systems, and all other plantroom equipment. Maintenance and management of IT and metering infrastructure covers data loggers, routers, M-Bus cabling, and any necessary liaison with BT regarding account or technical issues.

Working with all meters

Whereas other companies maintain only their own metering systems, Heatworks Solutions will provide its services regardless of who is chosen as metering and billing provider. Heatworks’ experts can also help managing agents make cost savings through energy analysis and can provide advice regarding the Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations to ensure best practice at every stage of a project from system design specification to installation, commissioning and ongoing management of the network.

Heatworks Solutions’ comprehensive services, including 24-hour emergency cover, are initially offered in London and all areas inside the M25. The new company’s clients will also include mechanical and electrical contractors and engineers, and housing associations and developers.
